The day is done. The sauna is down the hall.

That is the whole reason to have one at home. No drive, no gym bag, no waiting for a bench. You walk down the hall.

The Forge Indoor is a traditional Finnish sauna for one: a Harvia stone heater, up to 200°F, and water on the stones when you want steam. Switch it on while you clear dinner. It reaches 170°F in about 25 minutes.

Two rounds and a cool off.

Step in.

Phone outside, towel on the bench. The cabin is already hot.

Round one.

Sit back against the Hemlock. Dry heat, slow breaths. Let the room do the work.

Cool off.

Step out, drink some water, sit somewhere cool. No rush.

Round two.

One ladle on the stones for löyly (say “lur-loo”), the burst of steam when water hits the stones. Get out when you have had enough.

Rinse.

A lukewarm rinse, then leave the door open so the cabin dries. That is the night.

Pick a color for the night.

An LED strip runs under the bench and overhead. Warm white most nights, or a color when you want the room to feel different. Tap one.

What you need.

A dry, level spot indoors
A dedicated 240V, 20A circuit
An electrician to hardwire it
Two people, about two hours

Good to know.

How long is a session?

This routine is about 20 minutes, with around 14 of them in the heat, split into two rounds. Start shorter if you are new and go by how you feel.

Do I have to pour water on the stones?

No. Dry heat is fine. The water is there when you want löyly. Pour a ladle at a time, never a bucketful.

How hot should I set it?

The Forge Indoor goes up to 200°F. Start mid-range on the thermostat and turn it up as you get used to it.

How long does it take to heat up?

About 25 minutes to reach 170°F. Switch it on before you start winding down.

What power does it need?

A dedicated 240V circuit on a 20A breaker, hardwired by a certified electrician.

Is a sauna right for everyone?

Talk to your doctor first, especially if you are pregnant, on medication or have a medical condition. Drink water before and after.
